Biography
Dr. McCusker became inspired to pursue a career in medicine while working on genetics research with physicians at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine while obtaining his master’s degree in clinical psychology. Just like when he was a student, Dr. McCusker continues seeking new knowledge and opportunities for his patients. Today, he does this by listening to patients, understanding their cancer journey, and applying evidence-based treatments.
Dr. McCusker approaches each patient with an open mind, recognizing that everyone under his care has a unique history, experience, and medical journey. He prioritizes understanding each patient to develop a clear, practical treatment plan in collaboration with the rest of their care team. He believes that part of his job is to give each patient the information they need to be an active participant in their own care.
Dr. McCusker and his wife Anastasia moved to Winchester in 2021, after he completed his medical training. They have two young daughters and have enjoyed getting to know the Shenandoah Valley community as a family. When he is not in the office, Dr. McCusker enjoys spending time outside with his family and dog. You can often find them walking around the Museum of Shenandoah Valley and Gardens, hanging out in their backyard, or eating ice cream on the Walking Mall. In his spare time, Dr. McCusker enjoys doing home projects, woodworking, and playing the guitar.
